Ubud to the Gili Islands is one of the most common routes in Bali — but theres no direct boat from Ubud (its inland!). Here is how to do it.
Your Two Options
| Route | Total Time | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Ubud → Padang Bai → Gili | 3-3.5 hours total | Fastest option |
| Ubud → Sanur → Gili | 3.5-4 hours total | More boat options |
Option 1: Via Padang Bai (Recommended)
Ubud to Padang Bai: 1-1.5 hours by car/taxi
Padang Bai to Gili: 1.5-2 hours by fast boat
This is the fastest route. EkaJaya and Gili Getaway operate from Padang Bai.
Getting to Padang Bai
- Private driver: 250k-350k IDR (arrange through hotel)
- Grab/Gojek: Similar price, easy to book
- Shuttle: Some operators include hotel pickup
Option 2: Via Sanur
Ubud to Sanur: 45 min - 1 hour by car
Sanur to Gili: 2-2.5 hours by fast boat
More boat operators run from Sanur, but the crossing takes longer.
Best Strategy
- Book fast boat departing 9:00-10:00 AM from Padang Bai
- Leave Ubud by 7:30 AM
- Arrive Gili Trawangan by noon
Pro Tip
Many operators offer hotel pickup from Ubud included in the ticket price. Check when booking — this saves arranging separate transport.
