Kuta to Gili Trawangan
Your journey, step by step
Every leg with real timing, and what each one costs.
What this journey costs
One traveller taking the whole car, on the cheapest class and crossing. A group splits the car, so it costs less each.
Know before you go
The things travellers actually ask us about this route.
Landing today and sailing today
It works, but the margin is thinner than it looks. The useful Gili departures from the south leave in the morning and early afternoon, and you need to be checked in 45 minutes before. A flight on the ground by about 10:00 makes the day comfortably; land much after midday and you are looking at a night in Kuta and a morning boat, which is the better trip anyway.
If your flight is delayed
A car booked with a flight number moves with the flight; a ride hailed on landing does not, and you join the rank at the moment it is longest. If the connection is tight, book the boat for the following morning rather than the same afternoon — a missed fast boat is not re-seated for free, and the afternoon crossing is the rough one.
What time to leave Kuta
For a 09:30 Sanur departure, a pickup around 07:50 is comfortable. The bypass is fast; the slow part is getting out of the Kuta lanes, which are one-way, narrow and full of drop-offs. Agreeing a meeting point on a main road saves more time than leaving earlier does.
Padang Bai for a shorter sail
The east-coast crossing is roughly an hour shorter at sea, and from Kuta the drive is around two hours instead of forty minutes. That trade is worth it when the sea matters more than the alarm clock — travelling with small children, or with anyone who does not enjoy boats.
Other ways in
Routes we do not sell, named so your comparison is complete.
Fly to Lombok
The airport is on your doorstep, so this alternative is more tempting here than anywhere else on the strip: a short flight, then a road transfer to Bangsal and a fifteen-minute local boat. Dearer, but barely any open water.
Via Serangan
A short drive from Kuta and heavily promoted elsewhere. We hold no bookable Gili Trawangan sailing from Serangan, so this one is a direct booking with the operator.
