About Gili Gede

Gili Gede is the largest of the Southwest Gilis, a quiet cluster of islands off the Sekotong peninsula in West Lombok. Unlike the busy northeast trio of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno, Gili Gede is calm and undeveloped, with a handful of eco-resorts, fishing villages and mangrove-lined shores.

The island jetty receives fast boats from Bali (Serangan) via Nusa Penida, and connects onward to Senggigi and the northeast Gili Islands.

Getting to Gili Gede

  • From Serangan, Bali: approx. 3 hours by fast boat via Nusa Penida
  • From Nusa Penida: approx. 1 hour
  • From Tembowong (Lombok mainland): 5–10 minutes by local boat
  • From Lombok Airport: approx. 1.5 hours by car to Tembowong, then local boat

Travel Tips

  • Bring cash — limited ATMs on the island
  • Ideal for a quiet, off-the-beaten-path island stay
  • Local boats connect to neighbouring Gili Asahan and Gili Layar

Before you travel: Gili Gede

Check-in

  • Gili Getaway asks you to be at the dock at least 30 minutes before departure; its boats leave on time.

Boarding

  • The boat from Bali berths at a private resort jetty, so there is no beach landing.

Getting there

  • Gili Gede is a stop on Gili Getaway’s line from Serangan. It does not sail every day, so check the dates in the schedule. Local boats cross to Tembowong on the Sekotong mainland.

Facilities

  • There is no ATM on the island, so bring cash.
