Semaya One Fast Ferry: The Value Pick on the Padang Bai Crossing

Semaya One — operating as Semaya Darmajaya — runs the short Padang Bai corridor to the Gili Islands and Lombok at a flat IDR 400,000 per adult on every route it sells. That single fact is the reason to consider it: the same 90-minute crossing costs IDR 640,000 to 675,000 on Eka Jaya. It is the most-booked Gili operator on Sailtix.

Is It Worth It Against the Alternatives?

On price, clearly. Eka Jaya runs the identical Padang Bai to Gili Trawangan crossing in the same 90 minutes for IDR 640,000–675,000 — roughly IDR 240,000 more per adult.

What you give up is choice. Eka Jaya runs three departures a day out of Bali against Semaya One's one morning sailing, reaches all three Gili islands directly, and has a larger fleet, so a maintenance day is less likely to become your problem. Semaya One is the better booking when your date is fixed and you simply need to cross. Eka Jaya is the better booking when you want flexibility, island-hopping, or a late departure.

The Boat

The hull on the Padang Bai corridor is the Semaya Darmajaya Jet:

• Capacity: 280 passengers
• Hull: marine-grade aluminium — heavier and more rigid than fiberglass, which is what you want crossing the Lombok Strait
• Dimensions: 36 m long, 5.75 m beam, 1.2 m draft
• Engines: 3 × MTU DDC 16V2000, cruising 23–25 knots
• Built: 2024

The wider Semaya One fleet includes the 300-passenger MV Semaya Victory, the 250-passenger Semaya Miracle catamaran, and the 140-passenger Semaya One Pride. The Darmajaya Jet is the vessel bookable through Sailtix on this route.

Hull, engine and capacity figures are the operator's published specification, not something we have measured. Ride quality in swell and onboard comfort are the things we have not yet verified ourselves.

Booking and Boarding

• Getting to Padang Bai: allow 1.5–2 hours by road from South Bali depending on traffic. The sea leg is short; the road leg is not.
• Departure port: Padang Bai Harbor, East Bali. Semaya One does not run the Sanur or Nusa Penida corridors on Sailtix.
• Check-in: Semaya One asks you to arrive at the harbour at least 1 hour before departure.
• Bring ID: a valid government-issued ID card or passport, original or photocopy, is required at check-in.
• Luggage: 25 kg of checked baggage, which their terms cap at two pieces, plus hand luggage. Excess may be charged at the harbour.

Cancellation, Refunds and Date Changes

Semaya One publishes the same refund structure as most operators on this corridor. The 48-hour wall is the one to plan around:

Date changes must be requested at least 48 hours before departure and are subject to seat availability.

Two things to watch. Promotional tickets are strictly non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be moved to another date or time at all — if you book a promo fare, you are committed. And unlike Eka Jaya, Semaya One sells no flexible-fare add-on, so there is no way to buy your way out of the 48-hour wall. If your dates are uncertain, that flexibility is worth more than the IDR 240,000 you save on the fare.

Semaya One may also cancel sailings for weather, technical or safety reasons, and their terms state they are not liable for consequential costs such as missed onward flights. Leave a buffer before international departures.

You cancel through Sailtix, not through the operator. If you need to cancel or move a booking made here, contact Sailtix and we handle it with Semaya One on your behalf — you do not need to phone the harbour, email the operator, chase anyone in Indonesian, or be in the country to do it. One message to us is enough. The windows above still apply, because they are the operator's terms and we cannot waive them, so tell us as early as you can rather than waiting.

Who It Suits

• Good fit: travellers on a fixed date who want the short Padang Bai crossing at the lowest fare on the corridor, and anyone continuing to Senggigi or Bangsal on Lombok — where the flat rate is best value.
• Consider alternatives: if you need more than one departure time, want to reach Gili Meno directly, or want published cancellation terms, Eka Jaya is worth the extra fare.
