Eka Jaya Fast Ferry: High-Capacity Stability

Eka Jaya is often considered the "heavyweight" of the Bali-Lombok crossing. Unlike the smaller fiberglass boats common in the region, Eka Jaya operates a fleet engineered specifically for the deep-water swells of the Lombok Strait.

Eka Jaya is the primary choice for travelers who prioritize stability and onboard space. Operating out of Padang Bai Harbor, their service focuses on the high-traffic corridor between East Bali, the Gili Islands (Trawangan, Air, Meno), and Bangsal (Lombok).

Is It Worth the Fare?

Eka Jaya is not the cheapest way across. Semaya One runs Padang Bai to Gili Trawangan and Gili Air at IDR 400,000 — the same corridor, the same 90-minute crossing, for roughly IDR 240,000 less per adult.

What the higher fare buys is choice and redundancy: three daily departures rather than a narrower timetable, all three Gili islands rather than two, onward Lombok connections on the same ticket, and a larger fleet so a maintenance day is less likely to become your problem. If you are travelling on a fixed date and simply need to cross, Semaya One is the better value. If you want flexibility, island-hopping or an onward Lombok leg, Eka Jaya's network is the reason to pay more.

The Technical Advantage: Aluminum vs. Fiberglass

The most significant differentiator for Eka Jaya is its Marine Grade Aluminum hull construction.

Reduced Seasickness: Aluminum hulls are heavier and more rigid than fiberglass, allowing the vessel to "cut" through waves rather than bouncing over them.

Raw Power: The 34–35 metre boats run 4 × 750 HP Volvo D16 engines — 3,000 HP total — and cruise at around 35 knots, holding speed even when fully loaded.

The Fleet, Boat by Boat

Six Eka Jaya hulls are bookable on Sailtix. They are not interchangeable — capacity ranges from 180 to 382 seats — so it is worth knowing which one you are on:

Lengths, capacities and engines are Eka Jaya's own published specifications. In-service dates are from live Sailtix booking data.

Ekajaya Patra — the one worth asking for

Launched June 2026 and built in Batam, the Patra is a different class of boat: 41 metres, 382 seats, and three MAN 1,650 HP engines driving HamiltonJet HTX58 waterjets — the first vessel in the world to enter service with that propulsion system. It cruises at 31 knots with air-conditioned seating, personal tables, and a 60-seat sun deck.

The waterjets matter beyond speed. A waterjet's impeller is fully enclosed inside the jet body, with no open propeller turning beneath the hull — materially safer for the dolphins, turtles and manta rays that share the Lombok Strait. If you care about that, ask for the Patra by name when you book.

Ride quality in swell, seating comfort and whether the onboard facilities work as listed are the things we have not yet verified ourselves. A Sailtix crew is scheduled to ride and photograph these vessels, and we will add a first-hand assessment here once we have it.

Onboard Experience

The Sun Deck: Eka Jaya features one of the largest rooftop decks in the industry—perfect for the scenic approach to the Gili Islands.

Climate Controlled: The main cabin is fully air-conditioned with high ceilings, designed to avoid the "cramped" feeling typical of fast boats.

Refreshments: A dedicated snack bar is available on board, famously serving cold Bintang and light snacks for the ~90-minute crossing.

Critical Logistics for Padang Bai

Getting There: allow 1.5–2 hours by road from South Bali depending on traffic. This is the real trade-off of the short crossing — the sea leg is quick, the road leg is not.

Check-in Window: check-in opens 1 hour before departure and closes strictly 30 minutes before. Padang Bai is a busy port, so treat the 30-minute mark as a hard deadline rather than a guideline. Eka Jaya asks for earlier check-in on Nusa Lembongan, Gili Air and Gili Meno.

Booking Cut-off: tickets close 24 hours before departure on Sailtix.

Luggage Policy: 25 kg of checked baggage plus one 7 kg hand-carry. Eka Jaya's terms cap checked baggage at two pieces; excess may be charged or refused. Surfboards are accepted and may carry a handling fee paid at the harbour.

Cancellation, Refunds and Date Changes

Eka Jaya's published terms, which are stricter than many travellers expect — the 48-hour wall is the one to plan around:

When you cancelRefund
7 or more days before departureFull refund
3–6 days before departure50% of the ticket
Within 48 hours, or no-showNo refund

Cancellations must be requested in writing, and refunds take roughly 3–4 business weeks to reach your bank. Cancellations caused by force majeure are exempt from these fees.

Date changes are subject to seat availability and cannot be made within 48 hours of travel. Outside that window, a change is normally free.

The Flex Fare add-on is worth knowing about if your plans are loose: for IDR 25,000 per one-way ticket (itself non-refundable) you get a 90% refund up to 24 hours before departure and up to three free date changes, subject to availability and any fare difference. On a IDR 640,000 ticket that is a small premium to move the no-refund wall from 48 hours down to 24.

You cancel through Sailtix, not through the operator. If you need to cancel or move a booking made here, contact Sailtix and we handle it with Eka Jaya on your behalf — you do not need to phone the harbour, email the operator, chase anyone in Indonesian, or be in the country to do it. One message to us is enough. The windows above still apply, because they are the operator's terms and we cannot waive them, so tell us as early as you can rather than waiting.

Arrival Tip: When arriving in Gili Trawangan, the boat docks at the main jetty. Be prepared for a short walk or a horse-cart (Cidomo) ride to your villa, as motorized vehicles are prohibited on the islands.

Who It Suits

  • Good fit: travellers wanting the short 90-minute crossing with the most departure times, anyone visiting more than one Gili island, and anyone continuing to Lombok on the same operator.
  • Consider alternatives: if fare decides it on a fixed date, Semaya One is materially cheaper on the identical route. If you are staying in South Bali and want to skip the Padang Bai road transfer entirely, a Sanur departure suits you better even though the crossing is longer.

Sailtix Expert Note: If you are traveling during the "windy season" (July–August), Eka Jaya's large-format aluminum boats are among the most comfortable ways to cross the Lombok Strait when the swells pick up.

Policies and check-in

Refund policy: Eka Jaya's published cancellation terms. 7 or more days before departure: full refund. 3-6 days before: 50% of the ticket value. Within 48 hours of departure, or no-show: no refund. Cancellations must be requested in writing. Refunds take approximately 3-4 business weeks to reach your bank, depending on the bank. Cancellations caused by force majeure are exempt from these fees. An optional Flex Fare add-on (IDR 25,000 per one-way ticket, non-refundable) raises this to a 90% refund up to 24 hours before departure. Cancellations and date changes for Sailtix bookings are handled by Sailtix on the customer's behalf — the customer does not need to contact the operator, the harbour, or anyone in Indonesia directly. One message to Sailtix is enough. The operator's timing windows above still apply and cannot be waived, so requests should be raised as early as possible.

Rescheduling: Date changes are subject to seat availability and cannot be made within 48 hours of travel. Outside that window a change is normally free of charge. The optional Flex Fare add-on (IDR 25,000 per one-way ticket) includes up to three free date changes when requested at least 24 hours before departure, subject to availability; any fare difference on the new sailing is payable.

Read the terms shown for the exact sailing during checkout. Arrive inside the operator's required check-in window and keep your identification and e-ticket available. Port fees or local transfers may be separate unless the booking explicitly includes them.
