Fast Boat Gili Trawangan to Bali

Fast boats from Gili Trawangan land at four Bali harbours: Padang Bai on the east coast, and Sanur, Serangan and Nusa Dua in the south. This page puts them in one timetable, so you can pick the boat by where you are going next in Bali rather than by the harbour name.

Padang Bai is the shortest crossing, about 1 hour 30 minutes on a direct boat, and the harbour with the most departures. It suits travellers heading to Ubud, Candidasa, Amed or east Bali, but it is roughly a 90-minute drive to the airport and the southern beach towns.

Sanur, Serangan and Nusa Dua are longer crossings, often three to four hours or more, because many boats call at Gili Air, Lombok, Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida on the way. In exchange they land close to the airport, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran and the Nusa Dua resorts, which can make them the quicker choice door to door.

Departures leave Gili Trawangan from the morning to mid-afternoon. If you are flying out of Bali the same day, pick a boat that leaves plenty of margin for delays at sea and for traffic from the harbour to the airport; after a morning crossing, an evening flight is the realistic target.

Boats leave from the harbour on the east side of Gili Trawangan, next to the main strip. Check in at your operator's counter before the time on your ticket; there are no cars on the island, so arrange a cidomo (pony cart) or a porter for heavy luggage.

Luggage is stowed together in the bow, not at your seat. Keep your passport, phone and anything fragile in a small hand bag, and expect to step down onto the beach at Sanur, where boats land on the sand rather than at a pier.

Afternoon crossings of the Lombok Strait are usually the bumpier ones. When weather cancels a sailing, operators move passengers to the next available departure, which is one more reason not to plan a tight connection to a flight.
